Monsoon covers entire Himachal

Shimla, June 30 (UNI) Rains continued to lash several parts of Himachal Pradesh for the third day today with the southwest monsoon extending its cover over the entire state, the Met office said.

Heavy rains were reported from Kangra district during the last 24 hrs with Nagrota Surian recording 80.3 mm of rains followed by 66.6 mm in Dharamshala, 61.6 in Ghamroor and 48 mm of rain in Palampur.

The Met office said Rampur in Shimla, Naduan in Hamirpur and Guler in Kangra also recorded 44.6, 41.5 and 28.5 mm rains respectively during the last 24 hrs.

The southwest monsoon has also covered parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh and the conditions were favourable for further advancement of the monsoon in north-western parts of the country, it said.

The Met office said the northern limit of monsoon was placed over Udaipur, Jalalabad, Gwalior, Dehradun, Ambala and Amritsar today.

Shimla and its adjoining areas did not receive any rains during the last 24 hrs, the Met office said adding Jogindernagar in Mandi district recorded 11 mm of rain, while Una and Bilaspur towns reported seven and six mm of rain till 0830 hrs.

However, Kalpa in Kinnuar and Patsio in Lahaul-Spiti did not receive any rainfall during the last 24 hrs, but Patiso recorded one degree drop in the night temperature, which stood at three degrees Celsius as compared to yesterday's four, it said.

Dharamshala was so far the wettest town of the state with 428.2 mm of rains this month, it said.

The weatherman has forecast light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers at several places in the state during the next 24 hrs.
