Monsoon arrives in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh

Chandigarh, June 30 (UNI) Southwest monsoon arrived in parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh today and further advanced into entire Himachal Pradesh with several areas in the region experiencing rain.

The northern limit of the monsoon passed through Udaipur, Jalawar, Gwalior, Bareilly, Dehra Dun, Ambala and Amritsar, according to the Weather Office here.

The weather Office has warned of heavy rain at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh during the next 48 hours even as moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers will occur at many places in the region.

Yesterday's upper air cyclonic circulation over south-east Haryana and adjoining west Uttar Pradesh persists, extending upto 3.1 km above sea level. The other upper air cyclonic circulation over south-west Jammu and Kashmir and its neighbourhood now lay over south-west state adjoining Punjab, extending upto 2.1 km above sea level. A trough from this system extends south eastwards upto Orissa coast, according to the Met Office.

Moderate to heavy rains lashed several parts of Himachal Pradesh for the third day today with the southwest monsoon advancing into the entire state. Rampur, Naudan, Guler, Nagrota Surian, Dharmsala and Gamroor experienced heavy downpour while Sujanpur Tira, Bhang-Manali, Solang Nullah and Pandoh had modrerate rainfall.

In Punjab, where the mercury stayed at a low level following rainfall, Amritsar recorded 11.8 mm and Nangal Dam 20.0 mm rain till this morning.

Many areas in Haryana also had rainfall. Hissar recorded 27.0 mm rain, followed by Kalka ( 7mm) and Ambala (1.2mm).

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, measured 1.8 mm while Jammu, the winter capital, registered 4.1 mm rainfall.
