Chandigarh, Jun 30 (UNI) Bus passengers in Punjab will pay an additional three paisa per km from tomorrow, after the state government today took the decision to go in for a marginal hike due to the recent fuel price hike.

Disclosing this here today, an offical spokesman said that now the bus fare rate would be 49 paise per km which was earlier 46 paise per km.

A notification in this regard had already been issued.

The state government was under pressure to hike the fares, as the Punjab Private Bus Transporters Association had threatened to go on a strike if the fares were not increased. The Association had pointed out that while in the last three years, the prices of petrol had been increased a number of times, there had been no hike in the passenger fares, as a result private transporters were suffering losses.
