Srinagar, June 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Police today held the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant outfit responsible for several 'fidayeen' (suicide) attacks in the Valley since last year.

Addressing a news conference here, state Director General of Police (DGP) Gopal Sharma said five fidayeen attacks were carried out in 2005, while this year there has been only one so far.

He said the Lashkar was responsible for all suicide attacks in the Valley, including the one on a Congress rally at the Sher-i-Kashmir Municipal Park here on May 21.

Mr Sharma also claimed that the police have got credible evidence and some vital clues about the recent militant attacks on tourists.

''The attacks on tourists at Soura and Dalgate have been worked out and the investigations have revealed that these were carried out by the Al Badr militant outfit. We are also expecting some good results soon,'' he added.

The DGP said there has been 18 per cent decline in the level of violence this year as compared to the corresponding period in 2005.

He said till September last year, there was a bit of control on violence by Pakistanis, but after that the level has been raised.
