Horse carts and shikaras to boost tourism
Chandigarh, June 30 (UNI) The Union Territory (UT) administration has decided to introduce horse carts (baggis) and shikaras, to enhance the image of the city as a major tourist destination.
This decision was taken at the Board of Directors meeting of CITCO held here recently. Secretary-cum-Chairman, CITCO, Krishna Mohan chaired the meeting.
The horse cart rides will be started between the Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake, the two popular tourist spots of Chandigarh. The administration hopes the 'baggi' rides will be popular among the tourists and local residents.
Initially five horse carts will be purchased. Depending on the popularity of the 'baggi' rides, the administration will purchase more horse carts.
Shikaras are being introduced to promote Sukhna Lake as a major water tourist resort in the city. Shikaras are quite popular and considered a major attraction for Srinagar Dal Lake.
