Four get life in prison for killing a youth
Jamtara, Jun 30 (UNI) Four persons, including a woman, have been awarded life imprisonment for they killed another male member of their family following an altercation over the ownership of a jackfruit here.
A court in Jharkhand's Jamtara district yesterday pronounced the verdict regarding the bizarre incident after the victim, Prahlad Turi, was beaten to death on June five, 1997 when he had plucked a jackfruit, which was identified as ''common property'' of the family.
The accused, Shankar Turi, Bhubaneswar Turi, Khagan Turi, Ms Kailashpati Turi and another person, got agitated over Prahlad's taking the fruit that soon turned into a violent altercation.
Finally, the five beat Prahad to death.
First district sessions court judge Arun Kumar Singh sentenced the four to life imprisonment with fine of Rs 10,000 each besides awarding five years of rigorous imprisonment to the fifth accused.
