4 coaches of Saptkranti derail near Kanpur station
Kanpur, June 30: Rail traffic on the busy Howrah-New Delhi trunk route was affected for more than five hours, following derailment of four coaches of Delhi bound 2557 UP Saptkranti Express near Tat Mill crossing, close to the Kanpur central late last night.
No one was injured in the accident as the train had just left the station and was yet to pick up speed, railway sources said here.
The train was coming from Muzaffarpur in Bihar and the derailment occurred at about 0200 hrs.
Immediately after the derailment, senior railway officials reached the spot and got all the affected coaches disconnected from the train. Passengers of the four derailed coaches were accommodated in other coaches and the train started its onward journey after five hours.
Normal movement of trains continued through other tracks but more than a dozen trains were running behind schedule from two to fours hours, sources said.
A departmental enquiry has been constituted to find out the cause of the derailment.
