ESIC recovers Rs 160.22 crore in arrears in 2005-06
New Delhi, June 30 (UNI) With private sector showing greater compliance, the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has recovered Rs 160.22 crore of Rs 550.47 crore of recoverable arrears from the defaulting establishments during financial year 2005-06.
As on March 31, 2005, the arrears of contribution and interest stood at Rs 1015.15 crore. Of this, Rs 464.68 crore was non-recoverable as the amount is involved in BIFR cases, disputed claims in courts, factories gone into liquidation, nationalisation and cases of employers whose whereabouts were not known.
Recovery from defaulters in the private sector was substantially higher during the past financial year compared to previous years.
However, the recovery from defaulting central public sector units was less, presumably because of lower budgetary support by the Central Government during the year against previous years.
A sum of Rs six crore only could be realised from NTC/NJMC during 2005-06 against lump sum payment of around Rs 55 crore received from NTC Mills alone during 2004-05.
The ESIC has set its own recovery machinery in all regions in order to accelerate the pace of arrears recovery.
