Debt ridden farmer commits suicide
Ludhiana, June 30 (UNI) A debt ridden 52-year-old farmer today allegedly committed suicide by consuming a pesticide at Jalaldiwal village near Raikot, police here said.
According to the police, the victim, Balbir Singh had taken loans of about Rs six lakhs from commission agents, relatives and banks. Family members told the police that the deceased had been under tremendous mental stress for the last few days as he was being pressed by the creditors to repay the loans.
The farmer is survived by his widow and three children. The police after post-mortem handed over the dead body to his relatives.
