Curfew lifted from trouble-torn Aligarh town

Aligarh, June 30: The district administration today lifted curfew from all the five police station areas of this town following restoration of normalcy.

Violence had erupted after local BJP leader O P Gupta was shot dead by armed miscreants on the night of May 27.

Later, Bablu -- one of the accused -- was lynched by locals.

Another person Azimullah had died of bullet wounds. At least nine people were also wounded in the communal clashes.

Indefinite curfew was clamped in Banna Devi, Gandhi Park, Kotwali, Sasani Gate and Dehli Gate areas.

Meanwhile, sector scheme would remain in force here as a precautionary measure. All business establishments have also been told to shut down by 2000 hrs.
