CPI increases by one point in May

Shimla, June 30 (UNI) All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW), on base 2001-100, for the month of May this fiscal increased by one point to stand at 121 points, the labour bureau sources said.

As compared to previous month, the index recorded an increase of five points in Chindwara in May, the sources said.

The index increased by four points in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Bakaro, Goa and Sholapur, by three points in 13 centres, two points in 15 centres and one point in 23 centres.

The index decreased by one point each in six centres of Himachal Pradesh, Amritsar, Yamunanagar, Kodarma, Labac-Silchar and Raniganj, while remaining stationary in 14 centres of the country, the sources said.

The index witnessed the maximum increase of five points in Chhindwara centre during May. This was mainly due to escalation in the prices of wheat, vegetables and fruits, firewood and medicines, the sources said.

On the other hand Himachal Pradesh, Amritsar, Yaumunagar, Kodarma, Labac-Silchar and Raniganj centres experienced a decrease of one point each.

The sources said the decrease was due to a fall in the prices of rice, wheat and wheat atta.

The indices stood at 125 points in Bangalore followed by Mumbai at 124, Delhi at 120, Kolkata at 119, Chennai at 118 and Ahmedabad at 117.
