Aizawl, June 30: Union Minister of state for Home Affairs S. Ragupathy today said the Centre would not react to the recent apology made by the LTTE regarding Rajiv Gandhi's assassination.

Talking to UNI here at Raj Bhavan, Mr Ragupathy, in a strongly worded reaction to the comments of the LTTE, said unequivocally that people cannot forgive and forget what happened.

''What's the point of a mere apology? Why it kept silent for all these 15 years and is now giving a statement on the issue, he questioned.

The minister, who was here for a two-day trip to the state, said ''Our government is not interested even in acknowledging their statement''.

''There is absolutely no point in discussing anything on this issue,'' he added.

Earlier in the week, LTTE spokesperson Anton Balasingham was quoted as saying that ''As far as Rajiv's assasination is concerned, I would say it is a great tragedy, a monumental historical tragedy, for which we deeply regret''.
