BSF Lift J
Srinagar, June 30 (UNI) Border Security Force (BSF) Jalandhar lifted the Ninth Police Martyrs Memorial Football Tournament for the second time in succession, defeating Jammu and Kashmir Bank by a solitary goal in a well contested game here today.
The lone goal was scored by BSF's Surjeet Singh in the second half of the match.
BSF Jalandhar had defeated Jammu and Kashmir Bank in the finals last year as well.
The match, played at the Bakshi Stadium here, was postponed on June 24 as organisers awaited confirmation from Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for his presence at the closing ceremony.
The final, earlier scheduled to be held on June 24, was postponed indefinitely at the last moment.
BSF Jalandhar had defeated Jammmu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) in the semi-final on June 22. While in the first semi-final on June 21, Jammu and Kashmir Bank beat CRPF Delhi, the winner of the championship in 2003, by two goals.
Financial Commissioner Home, B R Kundal was the chief guest and the match was also watched by state Director General of Police Gopal Sharma and additional Director General of Police (Armed) P S Gill.
