Allahabad, June 30 (UNI) The BJP today expressed serious concern over the mushrooming of madarsas on the Uttar Pradesh-Nepal border.

Talking to UNI here, party UP unit president Keshri Nath Tripathi claimed majority of these institutions were engaged in anti-India activities. ''It was most unfortunate that neither UP nor the central government is aware about their activities.'' Mr Tripathi lamented there was no authority to enquire about their curriculum or activities. ''The nexus between Nepali maoists and Indian naxalites has further worsened the situation,'' he added.

He also claimed fake currency, weapons and opium were freely being smuggled into India with the involvement of persons belonging to a particular community. ''Due to its appeasement policy, the government is not taking any action against these elements.'' The BJP leader alleged the Muslim community in western UP -- after forming an organisation -- was engaged in the division of the state and formation of Taj Pradesh comprising 22 districts and suggested that some districts adjoining the national capital of Delhi be declared as National Capital Region (NCR) and steps taken for their development.

He alleged both Samajwadi Party and BSP were harbouring criminals and mafias and collecting crores of rupees through them.

''Even the bureaucracy is working under the pressure of ministers and not taking its own decisions.'' The former UP assembly speaker observed the people were fedup with the misrule of SP-led regime in UP and clamouring for a change.

''BJP is the only viable alternative to provide a transparent administration and a fearless society.'' Mr Tripahti said chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav was making a lot of announcements and doling out sops with an eye on the 2007 assembly polls.

On former prime minister Vishwanth Pratap Singh's recent statements, Mr Tripathi alleged the Kisan Manch chief had always adopted a dual policy. ''Now, he has lost political credibility and is in search of a party, which can take him ahead.'' UNI JL VS VD KP1718
