Bengal to engage IIT(K) for attracting hardware companies

Kolkata, Jun 30 (UNI) The West Bengal government is planning to engage IIT Kharagpur to prepare a roadmap for attracting hardware companies in the state.

"We have so far attracted investments only in the software sector. We should take strong initiatives to attract investments in the hardware industry, specially in chip designing and fabrication segment," state IT minister Devesh Das said here today.

" We are planning to engage IIT Kharagpur to prepare a roadmap to bring in hardware industries in the state," Das said in an interaction at the Indian Chamber of Commerce.

This will help in creation of employment opportunities in the state and discuss with educational institutes like Jadavpur University in finding ways to produce the required talent pool, he said.

In the e-governance front, the state is trying to connect every block with state capital, he said adding that the state plans to take the e-governance initiative at the gram panchayat level.
