45 Central jail inmates freed on the peace accord day

Aizawl, Jun 30 (UNI) About 45 inmates of Central Jail in Manipur were freed here on Peace Accord Day, after their cases were disposed of by a camp court.

Prison Minister H Vanlalauva said here today there was an urgent need to dispose of some cases as the jail was getting crowded.

''Keeping this in view the state government decided to release some inmates on this day,'' he added.

''To restore peace in the state, the MNF ultras and the Mizo people have waited for 15 long years. Hence, peace should be shared by all including the prisoners,'' Vanlalauva said.

The minister presented the Central Jail inmates with two volleyballs, nets, three guitars and five radios. Earlier, he had given the jail TV sets for watching the World Cup Football 2006.
