4 arrested for betting on Soccer World Cup

Kanpur, June 30 (UNI) Police here today arrested four persons for betting on the winners of the ongoing soccer World Cup in Germany.

The arrests were made from Kanpur Tannery premises under Sisamau area of Kanpur City.

Police said four persons identified as Anuj Gupta, Ramesh Varma, Raj Kumar and Parmeshwar Gupta were involved in betting through mobile phones from different parts of the city.

The quartet have a good network in the other parts of the country including Haryana and had been arrested earlier also.

Meanwhile, they had confessed to their involvement in the illegal trade and police were trying to nab their aides in the racket.

Police recovered three mobile phones and Rs 3,500 in cash from their possession.
