18 dead, 14 injured as bus rolls into gorge in Shimla
Shimla, June 30 (UNI) At least 18 passengers were feared killed and 14 injured, two of them seriously, after a private bus plunged into a gorge in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh this morning.
Shimla ASP D W Negi said the accident occurred at Bhunoti, about 12 km from here, in the district, at about 0855 hrs when the bus was on its way to Shimla from Dhami.
The injured had been admitted to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) here where the doctors described the condition of the two injured serious, he said.
Mr Negi said senior district and police officials had rushed to the accident site and were supervising relief and rescue operations, which were hampered due to heavy rains in the area.
Over-speeding was the cause of the accident, he said and added that a case has been registered and investigations were on.
