Rationalised environmental policy for mining soon

New Delhi, June 29 (UNI) The new environmental guidelines formulated by the Ministry of Environment and Forests in consultation with Mining Ministry have been sent for clearance from the Prime Ministers Office (PMO), Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests Dr Pradipto Ghosh said today.

The PMO currently examining the new guidelines would send them back to the Ministry with its approval in three weeks time after which the government would issue the relevant notifications, Dr Ghosh added.

He was speaking at a summit organised by ASSOCHAM where Minister of Mines, Sis Ram Ola announced that a new mining policy is being formulated which aims at attracting domestic and foreign investments to the tune of 1,00,000 crore and generating employment opportunities for five lakh people.

The Secretary also added that though the guidelines have been liberalised, they would not compromise on environment protection.
