Provide separate quota for Muslims: TMC
Chennai, Jun 29 : The newly-formed Tamil Nadu Muslim Congress (TMC) today urged the Union Government to enact a special legislation or amend the Constitution to provide separate reservation for Muslims in the country.
In a statement here, TMC Founder-President K Hussain Wahab also urged the Centre to examine whether the state governments were properly utilising financial allocation for the uplift of Muslims.
He also wanted the Central and State Governments to hold special awareness camps for the illiterate, especially from the muslim community, on the Centre's welfare measures.
Mr Wahab said the party had nominated office bearers for a few districts.
The state office bearers will undertake a tour of Tamil Nadu beginning July 14 during which the functionaries for the remaining districts will be finalised.
The TMC will contest the ensuing local body elections on its own and efforts are on to register the party with the Election Commission of India, Mr Wahab said.
