PDP seeks involvement of Dal dwellers in Lake's protection
Srinagar, June 29 (UNI) Senior PDP leader and former Jammu and Kashmir Minister Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari today sought a comprehensive mechanism for conservation of the world famous Dal lake and stressed the need for catchment area development around it.
Addressing several public meetings here, he said Dal lake and Dal dwellers were complimentary to each other and called for their involvement in its protection.
Moulvi Ansari said Dal dwellers were solely dependent on the lake for livelihood and any damage done to it would inter alia affect their livelihood.
Dal was the face of Kashmir and any damage done to it would have serious consequences on tourism prospects of the Valley, he added.
The former Minister said presence of Dal dwellers has been there for centuries and the life in water was a fascinating experience for the tourists.
He appealed to Dal dwellers to help in protection of the lake and restoration of its pristine glory and aesthetic grandeur.
