OBE award conferred on Supriya Banerji

Written by: Staff

London, June 29 (UNI) Ms Supriya Banerji, CII's Policy Division Head, has become the first women from India in the past 12 years to receive an honorary Order of the British Empire (OBE) award, for her services towards trade between Britain and India.

Ms Banerji was incharge of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) operations in the UK for about seven years, before returning to New Delhi, five years ago, to take charge as head International.

She currently heads CII's Policy Division and Media Department.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said the Honours office checked the records of the last twelve years and found her to be the only one from India to receive the honour. ''It makes it even more special,'' an FCO spokesman said.

The honour will be presented to her by the British High Commissioner to India, in New Delhi, later this year.
