NCP holds demonstration on Lankan issue

Chennai, Jun 29 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by its President G P Sarathy held a demonstration here today, protesting against the "atrocities" on Tamils in Sri Lanka.

In his address, Mr Sarathy condemned the "attacks on the Tamils" and sought the Union Government's immediate intervention to protect them.

He also urged the Centre to stop all assistance, particularly in defence, to Sri Lanka.

The NCP leader appealed to the Centre to ensure the safe arrival of Tamil refugees to Tamil Nadu.

Mr Sarathy requested the Tamil Nadu Government to provide basic amenities to the refugees housed in different camps in the state.

Party State Secretary P K Naresh Kumar, Treasurer K T K Aravindhan and Women's Wing Secretary Bhuvaneswari were among those who spoke.
