Local court awards RI to rape accused

Jammu, June 29 (UNI) A local court today sentenced one person to six and a half year's rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 15500 in connection with the rape and kidnapping case.

Additional Sessions Judge, R S Jain awarded the sentence to Vijay Kumar, resident of Shagla, Reasi, under Section 366/342/354 of the Indian Penel Code (IPC).

According to the prosecution, Kumar kidnapped the prosecutrix when she was going to her training centre. He took her to a guest house and took her photographs in nude.

The photographs were taken with the intention so that the victim would desist from prosecuting the rape case which was already pending against Kumar and two of his accomplices in this court.

The accused will undergo five years of rigorous imprisonment for rape and one-and-half-year for kidnapping under Section 366 and 342 of the Indian Penel Code (IPC).

However, a fine of Rs 15500 has been imposed on him u/s 354 for taking nude photographs of the victim.

In case of default in payment of fine, the accused would further undergo imprisonment for a period of six months, the court observed.

All the sentences shall run concurrently.
