Joseph Edamaruku passes away

New Delhi, June 29 (UNI) Well known Malayalam journalist, writer and rationalist Joseph Edamaruku died in sleep here early today.

As per his wishes, his eyes were donated to All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The body will also be handed over to anatomy department of AIIMS for the use of medical students.

Mr Edamaruku (73) died in sleep and hospital sources said a low blood sugar level was the cause of death. The body was kept at the Kerala House throughout the day to enable the people to pay their homage.

Wreaths were laid on behalf of Kerala Chief Minister V S Achutanandan and several Delhi Malayalee organisations.

Congress General Secretary A K Antony and Pradesh Congress President Ramesh Chennithala visited Kerala House to pay their respects.

A known personality among Malayalees in the capital and an atheist, Mr Edamruku is survived by his son Sanal and daughter.

Author of 173 books and more than 2000 articles in Malayalam, Edamaruku was President of Indian Rationalist Association from 1995-2005, a post being held at present by his son Sanal. He had lived in Delhi from 1977 and represented Kerala Sabdam group of newspapers.
