Indian fishermen injured by Lankan Navy
Rameswaram, June 29 (UNI) An Indian fisherman hailing from this temple town suffered bullet wounds when Sri Lankan Navy personnel opened fired in mid seas off Katchachatheevu early today.
Police sources said the fisherman Julien (36), was fishing along with three others in a mechanised boat, when the Navy opened fire around 0130 hrs. Julien suffered bullet wounds on his right hip.
Fellow fishermen - Robert, Antony and Michael - brought him by boat to Rameswaram.
The injured fisherman, hailing from Thangachci Madam here, was rushed to Ramanathapuram Government Hospital, from where he was referred to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai as the bullets could not be removed.
