Hingis races into Wimbledon third round
LONDON, June 28 (Reuters) Former champion Martina Hingis reached the third round at Wimbledon with a brisk 6-1 6-2 win over Italy's Tathiana Garbin today.
The Swiss 12th seed, who last played at Wimbledon five years ago losing in the first round, looked in a hurry to get home before the evening light failed, wrapping up the first set in 33 minutes.
Her 68th-ranked opponent could not match Hingis's renowned touch and finesse and after several desperate attempts to reach shots by flinging her racket though the air, capitulated after an hour.
The 1997 champion now meets 18th seed Ai Sugiyama of Japan.
