Gurukuls' performance under review in Haryana

Chandigarh, June 29 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to review the performance of Gurukuls in the state with a view to providing them financial assistance.

A Review Committee would be formed to assess the performance of various Gurukuls so that monetary aid could be provided to them by the government, Haryana Education Minister Phool Chand Mullana said today at a gathering of Sanskrit scholars organised by the Haryana Sanskrit Akademi at Panchkula near here today.

At present, as many as 40 Gurukuls were being run in the state, he added.

Mr Mullana also urged the litterateurs and scholars to promote Sanskrit language as ''authoritatively as English language'' in the country and said the state government would promote it through various literary and educational activities of the Haryana Sanskrit Akademi.

He said the government would also consider making Sanskrit as an additional subject for matriculation examination instead of making it an optional subject.
