FIR against fertiliser company

Kanpur, June 29 (UNI) Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has registered a case against a fertiliser unit for fraudulently availing of fertiliser subsidy worth several crores of rupees.

Police said at least 30 such fertiliser units were working in Uttar Pradesh only on papers, showing production of 'single super phasphate' between 1998 to 2000.

These units even showed fertiliser sales to different outlets in the said period, withdrawing central subsidy worth Rs 1200 crore, sources today said.

Uttar Pradesh government had handed over the case to EOW on November 7, 2001. Investigations revealed that a majority of such units were running on paper only.

Investigating officer, Manik Lal Chaudhary yesterday registered a case with Bhoganipur Kotwali against the director, executive director of the fertiliser unit.

The FIR also accused several state government agriculture department officials of involvement in the racket.
