Excise dept cracks down on excise offenders

Hyderabad, June 29 (UNI) As many as 1,527 persons were arrested as excise officials seized 53,171 arrack sachets and 25,354 litres of illicit liquor in the raids conducted during the local body elections in Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh Director of Enforcement (Prohibition and Excise), K V Rajendranath Reddy, in a release here tonight said a total 3,254.7 litres of Indian-made liquor were seized.

About 13.86 litres of fermented wash was seized and destroyed.

In all 132 vehicles used for transport of the illicit liquor were also apprehended. Besides, 451 kg ganja, 2600 kg jaggery, 129 beer bottles, 800 litres of illegal toddy and 32 litres of spirit were also seized, he added.
