Ex-naxal 'commander ' nabbed

Durg, June 29 (UNI) A 35-year-old former naxal 'commander' and two female rebels were arrested in Muskera village of this district, police said today.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rajesh Mishra told UNI that 'commander' Majji Raju, who was carrying a reward of Rs 15,000 on his head, was staying in a rented accommodation at the village along with the women.

''Following a tip-off, we raided Muskera. Raju was 'commander' of the Kolibeda and Medki dalams. Sumitra and Janaki were also apprehended,'' the officer added.

During interrogation, Raju said the women were his wives and he had abandoned the extremist movement to lead a peaceful life. He was wanted in 66 criminal cases, including six for murder. Other cases related to firing, loot and arson. Raju was a native of Majjimedi in tribal Bastar region's Bijapur district.
