DGP denies constable died due to sand lorry hitting him
Chennai, Jun 29 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today denied reports in a section of the media that an illicit sand-laden lorry had killed a police constable, when he was engaged in checking.
Director General of Police Mukherjee in a press release here said the deceased constable Annamalai was on night duty on the fateful day on June 27 and not engaged in checking illicit sand-laden lorries.
He, along with another beat constable were standing in the corner of a road and when a lorry negotiated the corner, the metallic angle at the rear end of the lorry's chassis hit Annamalai on his forehead and he died due to injuries, the DGP said.
'It is not correct to say the Head Constable beckoned the lorry to stop and the lorry driver hit him. It is also not correct to say that the lorry was carrying illicit sand,' the DGP clarified.
