DDO suspends panchayat members involved in post-Godhra riots

Anand, June 29 (UNI) District Development Officer (DDO) G V Bukhani today suspended two members of Kavitha village panchayat for their alleged involvement in the post-Godhra communal violence in the village during 2002.

Vested with powers to suspend elected representatives under the Panchayat Act, the DDO suspended Chandubhai Parmar and Sureshbhai Parmar with immediate effect, official sources here said.

The two village panchayat members were sent to five days police custody at Borsad Police Station by a local court during that period.
