Cop forced to end hunger strike

Written by: Staff

Chitradurga, Karnataka, June 29 : A police constable was forced to end his three-day hunger strike during duty hours inside the police station at Srirampura, about 80 km from here, following his superiors threatening to file a case of attempted suicide against him.

Police sources said Constable Babu Reddy went on fast as his repeated appeals to the higher authorities, seeking cancellation of his recent transfer from the Chitradurga police station to Srirampura, fell on deaf ears.

Srirampura Sub-Inspector Shankaraiah brought the stir to the notice of his superiors, who directed him to book a case of attempted suicide against the cop if he did not drop his agitation.

This forced the Constable to wind up his hunger strike, yesterday.
