Baby boy meets with tragic end

Madikeri, Karnataka, June 29 : A two-year-old baby boy met with a tragic end when he slipped and fell into a bucket of water at Kommetodu near Virajpet.

Police said Shashank was playing with the bucket, kept in the yard to collect rainwater, when he slipped and fell into it face down.

Meanwhile, the people of Kodagu district have been experiencing rain fury for the past three days, after enjoying a respite for about 20 days.

Students of a school at Mullusoge had a miraculous escape as a tree branch fell on the school compound wall. Under the impact, the compound wall had been damaged, while the main school building suffered minor damage.

Huts and old houses on hillocks had developed cracks and some collapsed partially. A temple at M Badaga village had been damaged when a tree fell over it.

Rivers and streams were slowly rising, causing concern to officials. As a precautionary measure, people living in low-lying areas have been asked to move to safety.
