Asom govt pumps in Rs 436 crore for better health service
Guwahati, June 29 (UNI) Asom government has pumped in Rs 436 crore in the health sector this year for providing better health service in rural and urban areas of the state.
Addressing a press conference here today, state health minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said of the total, Rs 32 crore is from the 12th Finance Commission, Rs 80 crores from the National Rural Health Mission while Rs 34 crores is being spent from the state plan.
The state government is laying maximum focus on the rural health sector which has been neglected over the years to such an extent that 60 per cent of the hospitals are functioning without any doctor.
''We have appointed 200 new doctors and another 76 retired persons are being freshly inducted to strengthen the service,'' said the minister announcing that everything was done on fast track basis and all the appointments are on contractual basis.
