Agri experts verify rat menace in Mizoram

Aizawl, Jun 29 : Agriculture experts reviewed the ground situation in the remote villages in west Mizoram following reports of growing rat population owing to bamboo flowering.

According to the reports, a remote village called Radali Zodin in the Kolasib district was facing rat menace.

Officials from Agriculture department here today said their representatives had to cross streams and small rivers to reach the place.

They found that the rats have not touched the rice plants though they have attacked maize and other vegetables.

The agriculture experts expressed concern over the rise in in the number of rats owing to bamboo flowering.

The people of Rasdali Zodin village are near starvation because of inaccessibility and late monsoon, which adversely affected rice cultivation.

The villagers subsist by selling bamboos at Bairabi railhead.
