25 Chatra Parishad activists court arrest

Kolkata, Jun 29 (UNI) Altogether 25 activists of West Bengal Chatra Parishad, student wing of the Congress, today courted arrest in front of Writers' Buildings here.

The activists were protesting the state education policy and abnormal hike in capitation fee for students.

Shouting anti-government slogans and charging them with formulating a ''faulty and anti-student'' education policy, the Chatra Parishad activists, led by its state president Sourav Chatterjee, gathered in front of the main gate of the State Secretariat and started demonstration violating section Cr Pc 144 in the area.

Police cordoned off the entire area, preventing the demonstrators from advancing further. Soon all of them were arrested and taken to state police headquarters at Lalbazar before being released.

Today's agitational programme was part of Chatra Parishad's month -long statewide demonstration programme, which was hampering the admission of students in higher classes.
