woman, infant killed for dowry; husband, in-laws arrested

Hoshiarpur, June 28 (UNI) A woman and her infant son died under ''mysterious circumstances'' in Hemja village on Monday in a suspected dowry harrassment case, police said.

On Tuesday Dasuya Police arrested Gurprit Singh, his mother Chhinder Kaur and father Balkar Singh for allegedly killing Ramandeep Kaur along with her two-and-half-month-old son Prabhu, SSP Hoshiarpur R N Dhoke said.

A case under section 302 and 304-B of IPC has been registered against the trio and two others, he added.

According to an FIR lodged by Gurjant Singh, brother of the deceased, his sister Ramandeep Kaur, who was married to Gurprit Singh on 8th June 2005, was tortured for dowry. She informed her parents repeatedly over telephone about these tortures.

About four months ago, Ramandeep Kaur was taken by her parent to their village Achroli where she gave a birth to her son. When she was sent back to her matrimonial home about a month ago, she was again tortured for more dowry, including a motor cycle.

He said Tuesday morning his family was informed by Gurprit that Ramandeep was suffering from dysentery. A few hours later they were informed that she was no more. After some time, they were again informed on telephone that her son Prabhu, had also died due to dysentery.

The Girl's family immediately informed the Dasuya police station, which took the dead bodies in possession and got postmortem conducted at Civil Hospital Dasuya, he said.
