Swamy calls Balasingham's statement 'silly'
Chennai, Jun 28 (UNI) Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy today dismissed as 'silly', LTTE ideologue Anton Balasingam's description of Rajiv Gandhi assassination as a 'monumental historical tragedy.' In a statement here, he said the LTTE leader had insulted India further by calling the assassination a tragedy. 'It was not a tragedy, but a dastardly murder and an open challenge to the sovereignty and self respect of India.
Stating that the courtroom was the forum where the LTTE could apologise, Dr Swamy said if Mr Balasingam wanted to do something constructive, he should advise the LTTE leaders to face trial in the case. 'If they do so, India will be obliged to protect the Tamils in the island,' he said.
