Ronaldo the best striker at present: Gerd Muller

Berlin, June 28 (UNI) Ronaldo is the best striker of the present generation and he has done a fantastic job for his country, according to Gerd ''Bomber'' Muller whose record of maximum of number of World Cup goals the Brazilian broke in the match against Ghana.

Muller, who scored 14 goals for Germany from two World Cups in 1970 and 1974, said he knew Ronaldo was on course to achive the feat.

''Although Ronaldo is now in his third World Cup, this is nevertheless still a great achievement on his part.

Playing at such a high level over such a long period of time, always managing to be fit at the right moment, is unusual nowadays. In my opinion, he's the best, most complete attacker there is at the moment,'' Muller told official FIFA website.

The 60-year-old German, however, said Frenchman Just Fontaine who scored 13 goals in 1958 World Cup in Sweden was the all time best in the business.

''I've always said that I wasn't the record-holder.

That honour, for me, goes to Just Fontaine, who scored 13 goals in one tournament. He's the best in my book.'' Muller was also ''pleasantly surprised'' by the way the German team is playing.

''The defence has been amazing. In the pre-World Cup warm-up matches, that was the real cause for concern, but now the Mannschaft have gone three games without letting a goal in.'' He was all praise for Germany's new generation of forwards. ''I am happy with them. Miroslav Klose had a great season for Werder Bremen and has brought his good form into the World Cup. Lukas Podolski is also doing a job, and that means that Germans have two dangerous attackers.'' Muller predicted the Germany's match against Argentina will be a tough one.

''The Argentines are opposition of a different calibre.

They've got five world-class strikers, so it doesn't matter who plays. It should be a great match,'' he said.
