Robbers shoot guard, loot over Rs nine lakh

Balasore, Jun 28 (UNI) Armed robbers shot a guard at the local branch of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) today and escaped with Rs nine lakh police said.

Though the authorities were ascertaining the amount of loot, initial reports put the amount at over Rs nine lakh.

Police here said five persons, who came in two motorbikes, entered the LIC branch premises and fired at four UTI bank employees carrying cash from the LIC branch, before excaping.

A bank security guard, who sustained bullet injuries, was rushed to a local hospital.

Police have launched a manhunt for the robbers.
