Reliance shift to not likely to happen: Qualcomm
New Delhi, June 28 (UNI) California-based CDMA technology provider Qualcomm today said Reliance is not likely to shift to the GSM services.
''There are some glitches in moving to GSM, I don't think it is going to happen,'' Qualcomm Chief Executive Paul Jacobs said.
He also said that the key issue was to bring down the handset cost rather than cut the company's royalty.
''Reducing the cost of producing handsets is more important, which could be lowered with further research and development.'' His visit to India comes after major CDMA players in the country including Reliance Communications, Tata Teleservices accused the company of charging a high royalty of 7 per cent on the sale of every CDMA phone in India, as compared to about 2 per cent in China and South Korea.
India contributes about 2.2 per cent to Qualcomm's worldwide royalty collection.
Last week, the company said it is aggressively working to enable lower-cost devices.
