RBI to issue rupee thousand note with inset letter 'L'

Mumbai, June 28 (UNI) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon issue Rs 1000 denomination banknotes with inset letter L' and additional security features.

The inset letter 'L' will be there in both numbering panels in Mahatma Gandhi Series, with new security features bearing the signature of RBI Governor, Dr Y V Reddy, said a press note issued today by RBI.

Except for the change in the inset letter, the design of these notes would be similar in all respects to the banknotes issued earlier in Mahatma Gandhi Series, with additional/new security features issued on October 21, 2005.

Also, all banknotes in the denomination of Rs 1000 issued by the Bank after the year 2000 will continue to be the legal tender.
