Rains cause landslide near hydro project, wash away houses

Shimla, Jun 28 (UNI) The heavy rains in Parvati Valley of Kullu district caused a massive landslide in the Siund Power House of the Parvati Hydro-Power Project yesterday, threatening the entire project.

However, the project authorities claimed there was no loss of life and property in the incident, while dismissing reports in a section of the press that the loss to the project ran into hundred thousand.

Three houses were also washed away, while two houses were damaged in flash floods in Chilai Nullah following heavy rains near Bagipul in Nirmand area of Kullu district yesterday, reports reaching late here said.

Police and official sources estimated the loss to property at Rs three lakh and said no loss of life was reported as no one was living in the houses at the time of the flash floods.

The Kullu district administration has announced an immediate relief of Rs 2,000 each to the affected families.
