Pravin Mahajan's JC extended till July 12

Mumbai, June 28: A local court here today extended the judicial custody of Pravin Mahajan who has been accused of murdering his elder brother and senior BJP leader Pramod Mahajan till july 12.

Pravin had allegedly shot thrice Pramod Mahajan on April 22 following which the latter had succumbed to his injuries on May 3.

Pravin was not physically produced before the court today, but additional chief metropolitan magistrate B L Waghmare extended the custody through video conferencing held at the specially made room in the court premises.

During the video conference hearing, Pravin, who is lodged in the Arthur Road jail, told the magistrate that since the last one month he has been suffering from restlessness and lack of sleep. He told the court that he is a chronic diabetic patient and also suffers from hypertension. In this regard, he has been subjected to several medical tests while in custody but the reports of the tests have not been provided to him, Pravin told the court.

At this, the magistrate directed the superintendent of the Arthur Road jail to ensure proper medical treatment for Pravin.

Pravin Mahajan also inquired about the chargesheet to be filed against him and said that he had learnt from media reports that the chargesheet was to be filed today. The court told him not to go by media reports and rely only on the directives of the court.

The court, however, inquired with the police about the chargesheet to which public prosecutor P B Dhamal assured the court that the police will file the chargesheet, within a weak, Meanwhile, Pravin expressed a desrire to meet his lawyer which was granted by the court.
