Police fire in the air at AP polling booths
Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, June 28 (UNI) Police opened fire in the air to disperse mobs at polling booths in Prakasham District of Andhra Pradesh today during polling for the Panchayat elections.
Police said security forces opened one round of fire at Potavaram village in PC Pally mandal, three rounds at Madanuru village in Kottapatnam mandal and two rounds at Akividu village when Congress and opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activists clashed.
Polling has been suspended at five polling stations in Dharmavaram, Veerabhadrapuram and Dhenuvakonda villages, where the party activists poured water and ink into ballot boxes.
Sixty per cent poll was recorded upto 1500 hours in the district.
