Order on Manjit Singh's petition in week's time

Mumbai, June 28 (UNI) The Bombay High Court is likely to deliver the verdict on the petition filed by Dance Bar Owners Association President Manjeet Singh Sethi challenging the 90-days sentence awarded to him by Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, for breach of privilege of members of the house, within a week's time.

Sethi's petition today came up for hearing before a full bench comprising Justices V G Palshikar, Dr S Radhakrishnan and V M Kanade.

He was awarded the sentence for allegedly saying that if the dance bars were shut, the minister's wives would not be allowed to come out of their homes.

However, he later clarified that he had not breached any privileges and was just repeating the statements made by bar dancers in their meeting after the ban on dance bars where he was invited by them.

He also contended that the reported statements were not made before the House and therefore it should not be treated as a breach of privilege on his part and that the State should withdraw the charge against him.
