Order in rape case involving constable deferred to July four

Mumbai, June 28 (UNI) A local court here today deferred passing orders in the rape case, involving head constable Chandrakant Pawar who allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl on October 17 last year, till July 4.

Pawar, attached with the Sahar police station, was arrested on the charge of raping a 15-year-old rag-picker in the vicinity of the police station itself. He was caught by some passers-by and handed over to the police. Pawar was later suspended from the service.

The proceedings in this case have been completed by Additional Sessions Judge K U Chandiwal in a record eight months time and he had reserved the order for today. However, the order was deferred till July four as the Judge, who is reportedly ill, has extended his leave.

The trial in the case was conducted on a day-to-day basis and a total of 12 witnesses, including the victim, had been examined.

Incidentally, the same judge had sentenced former constable Sunil More to 12 years rigorous imprisonmnent on April 3 this year for raping a teenaged girl inside the Marine Drive police outpost. The sentence was delivered in less than a year of the incident, which took place on April 22 last year.
