Monsoon vigorous in parts of AP, more rain predicted

Hyderabad, June 28 (UNI) The Southwest Monsoon was vigorous over coastal Andhra Pradesh today and was likely to bring more rain in the next 48 hours as conditions were favourable for formation of a low pressure over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal.

An upper air cyclonic circulation formed in the middle troposphere over the Bay of Bengal and was likely to result in formation of a low pressure by June 29/30, Hyderabad Meteorological Centre Director Satya Kumar told UNI.

'Under its influence, rainfall activity over Coastal Andhra Pradesh is likely to increase during the period. This activity is likely to extend into Telangana subsequently', he added.

There was rain at many places over Telangana and was isolated over Rayalaseema. Veeraghattam in Srikakulam district recorded very heavy rainfall of 10 cm, followed by Palasa in the district with 9 cm.

Meanwhile, a Visakhapatnam report said there was heavy rain in the area. The Cyclone Warning Centre has forecast more rains for the next 48 hours.

Other areas that received rainfall Patapatnam 8, Bobbili and Salur, Sattenapalli 6 cm each, Ichapuram, Kandukur, Parvathipuram, Prakasam Barrage 5 cm each, Kalingapatnam, Anakapalle, Cheepurupalli, Terlam, Yellandu 4 cm each, Nandyal, Visakhapatnam AP, Dummagudem, Mahabubabad, Mandasa, Palakonda, Sompeta and Tekkali, Wanaparthy 3 cm each, Kavali, Ongole, Achampet, Makthal, Nagarkurnool, Boath, Nirmal, Elamanchili, Eluru, Tanuku, Gajapathinagaram, Komarada, Srungavarapukota, Vizianagaram, Gudur, Sullurpet, Tada, Koida, Mulugu, Parkal, Nuzvid, Piduguralla, Tenali, Puttur, Srikalahasti 2 cm each and Adilabad, Guntur, Machilipatnam, Nizamabad, Vijayawada AP, Banswada, Bodhan and Nizamsagar, Bheemunipatnam, Bhimadole, Chevella, Pargi, Tandur, Darsi, Kalwakurthy, Kollapur, Khanapur, Kunavaram, Madhira, Perur, Khammam, Mangalagiri, Pathikonda, Srisailam, Yemmiganur, Peddapuram one cm each.

Moderate to rather heavy rain/thundershowers were likely to occur at many places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Light to moderate rain/thundershowers were likely to occur at a few places over Telangana and Rayalaseema.
